Volunteers are the heart of First Night, our link to the community and our artists. Help us make this celebration of creativity and community spirit happen! Our volunteer program includes:
•allowing you access to all events before and after your volunteer shift.
•Flexible shiftsproviding plenty of time for you to enjoy your favorites among our extraordinary line-up of artists.
• Opportunities for families, groups and co-workers to volunteer and celebrate the New Year together.
• Hot food and a place to relax in our First Night Volunteer Lounge at the Sapa Tea House!
Site Assistants-Rub elbows with artists and their fans while you help a Site Manager run a smooth show. Check buttons, guide crowds in and out of performances, and answer festival-goers' questions. We need more Site Assistants than any other kind of volunteer. Comfortable with directing people and flexible about what you do? Be a Site Assistant!
Button Sellers-If you like dealing with people, bring a couple friends and help us sell buttons and tickets! You can work at any of our downtown Button sales sites--Burlington Town Center, Memorial Auditorium, or right in our office. Limited number of Saturday and weekday shifts available BEFORE the event. Smiles required, retail experience a plus.
Runners-If you like variety and don't require a specific plan ahead of time, First Night has a special need for your help. With so many jobs to fill, we look for a core of volunteers who can change gears quickly and fill many different roles -- you may be in the office or out running errands among the performance sites. Please let us know if you are one of these on-the-go individuals. Art Assistants-Do you enjoy working with children and families on art activities? Volunteer at Burlington City Arts Firehouse Gallery or at the Clay & Print Studio and help budding artists create their own masterpieces. If you love scissors and glue, this is the place for you.Thank you, Westaff, for supporting our Volunteer Program!
Set-Up & Strike Crews-Get into the nitty-gritty of First Night! Set-up Crews work throughout the day and evening to transport chairs, install signs and banners, assemble staging, even move pianos! Strike Crews put the festival to bed (from 8:00pm - 1:00am) as our celebration winds down. The Set-up and Strike Crews are some of the 'miracle workers' we count on the most. Volunteer Lounge-Want to make sure everyone stays warm & well-fed? Help staff our volunteer lounge at the Sapa Tea House and make sure the soup's on and the coffee's hot! A great way to meet your fellow volunteers and stay warm & cozy at the same time. Office Assistants-We have a variety of office tasks for volunteers before, during and after the event. Help us sign up volunteers, sell buttons, answer phones, process button orders, make button & brochure deliveries, and more. We especially need lots of helpers when it gets crazy during December. If you volunteer in our office, you truly participate in the heart of First Night.Celebrate First Night in a fantastic, completely different way this year! Become a dragon with your friends, co-workers, or family for a truly transformative New Year's Eve experience. We welcome anyone who wants to celebrate by giving our community a creative, lively show down Church Street. Lots of parade assistants needed too. We're also looking for any open spaces in the area to build and store completed dragons. If someone has a workshop, open room or other space that is dry and a little warm, let us know.
